The keys feel solid and are a pleasure to work with. Can't say much about the touchpad since I always use a USB mouse. Speakers are not dazzling but adequate: don't know why people love to whine about laptop speakers...they are LAPTOP speakers for Chrissakes, get a clue! Most importantly, the i3 processor and 4GB of memory is quite zippy, especially once I used Revo Uninstaller (freeware) to remove the moderate amounts of bloatware. Certainly faster than my 1 year old Asus ULV50. Speaking of bloatware, it came with a trial version of Trend Micro Internet security that was not pre-activated, so that was relatively easy to get rid of (I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials which is free and does an excellent job with a minimum of system resource hogging). Setup was quick, just downloaded the latest Win 7 updates. The version of Google Chrome it comes with is crap so you'll need to... Now, the A53E I ordered has a second gen intel processor clocked at 2.2gHz, 4gigs RAM, 500gig HDD@5400rpm and, Windows7 64bit OS. So far, I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. It runs very cool and loads fast. Both boot and shut down times are very rapid less than minute to boot and seconds from shut down command to black screen. I am not a geek, nor am I comp-illiterate...this box does everything I have asked it to and does it well. I do a fair bit research and documentation, this machine does it all without a hitch. As far as bloatware, mostly ASUS stuff, but some is actually useful and some I got rid of. It does come with a good amount of ASUS branded bloatware, but it's all easily removed. The aluminum build gives it a solid and professional feel without sacrificing for more weight, and the fact that the aluminum is on the palm rest helps keeps temperatures down during strenuous use. No ports on the back give a clean look and allow a more secure hinge. All in all, a solidly built entry-level computer suitable for basic computing needs or High School. |
